Medical Transcription Services

MT firms offer the healthcare industry with special services like transcribing physician dictations as well as audio recordings in all medical fields.

As an important adjunct of the medical and healthcare industry, the Medical Transcription (MT) segment offers services parallel to the many specialties and subfields in the medical profession. Bringing organizational and technical expertise into play, medical transcription services transcribe doctor dictations and audio recordings in virtually all specialties, from Orthopedics and Dermatology to Pediatrics and Ophthalmology to Cardiology and Vascular Surgery.

Patient records are important and useful to a wide variety of users even outside the medical profession or healthcare industry. For one, it’s often used as reference or evidence in legal questions involving patient care and even in medical malpractice lawsuits and actions to resolve disputes in health insurance claims. The role of medical transcription in the healthcare industry can’t be overrated; its value to the medical profession can’t be exaggerated.

In such a sensitive billion-dollar industry, accuracy and data security is paramount. Most organizations offering medical transcription services have teams with experts in transcribing audio inputs in specific medical specialties. Service offerings vary but would usually include some or all of the following:

First is the Emergency Room (ER) visit summaries. The ER is one of the most toxic areas of a hospital. As most cases brought in could be life-threatening or requiring urgent medical care, nurses, residents and other staff would inevitably be speaking at relatively fast speeds, sometimes even simultaneously. A trained listening ear is very important to assure accuracy in an ER summary transcript.

Second is clinic notes and consultation reports. Useful for further assessment or diagnoses, doctor’s clinic notes and consultation reports are often used as references for accurate diagnostics.

Third is patient history and physical reports. Interviews with patients detail family background and important medical history. Diagnostics and assessment of current conditions are largely dependent on the details and accuracy of patient histories. Physical reports reveal all perceivable symptoms that give a first clue to the patient’s condition.

Fourth is discharge summaries. This medical transcription report details the doctor’s instructions for home care. It would also inform patients of any special instructions or restrictions they need to do for speedy recoveries. Doctors also use discharge summaries as ballparks for assessing patient improvement on visits following a hospital stay.

And fifth is therapy reports. These are invariably narratives of what a patient has said and done and what the therapist notes in the patient’s physical or mental condition. In physical therapy, the reports detail what exercises were given to a patient and how much of it was accomplished. It includes some progress notes and plans for further sessions. In psychiatric sessions, it’s a transcript of what transpired in a session and the therapist’s observation.

Besides all these, Medical Transcription firms also have expert teams that transcribe surgery reports, death summaries, patient progress notes, letters and referrals, SOAP notes, laboratory summaries and reports and others.

MT’s are indispensable partners of the health care system and medical professionals in the quest for optimum patient care in the world.

How do You Become a Compounding Pharmacist?

Everyone responds to substances that they inhale, ingest, or receive via injection or through the skin, differently. When it comes to medications, not everyone responds the same and achieve the same results. The purpose of pharmacy compounding is to meet the needs of people who are unable to take medication in the commercial form.

Compounding pharmacists customize a patient’s medication prescription for the specific needs of the patient. As the demand for compounded medications increased, the pharmacy industry realized there was a need for a national set of standards so that compounding pharmacies could test their quality practices. There is now a big demand for compounding pharmacists.

Compound pharmacists are pharmacists who are specially trained. In the U.S., all licensed pharmacists are capable of performing some type of compounding. Compounding is taught in pharmaceutical programs in pharmacy school. Every pharmacist are required to have these basic skills in order to graduate and become licensed. The level of continuing education one obtains and years of experience coincides with how specialized one becomes in the compound pharmacy field. Pharmacists are trained in pharmacy school to compound and the amount of training one receives is dependent upon the particular pharmacy school they attend. As the medication preparations become more complicated, the amount of training that is needed increases. There continuing education programs are available for those who want to keep their training and experience current.

All licensed pharmacies must be able to provide some level of compounding. However, some compounded prescriptions have to be referred to specialty compounding pharmacies. The average chain pharmacy compounds 1-3% of total prescriptions. Compounding is regulated by the individual state pharmacy boards and manufacturing is regulated by the FDA. Besides working in a compounding pharmacy, if you are interested in pharmaceutics, working for a drug company in the drug production department is often recommended in order to get more experience to become a compounding pharmacist.

In 2004, major pharmacy associations joined with the U.S. Pharmacopeia to form the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB). This is a voluntary accreditation organization whose purpose is to assure the quality of compounded medications that patients are prescribed. PCAB Accredited compounding pharmacies are required to have specific training in the methods of compounding.

To become PCAB-accredited, compounding pharmacies are tested against 10 strict standards. These standards include: "regulatory compliance; personnel; facilities and equipment for both sterile and non-sterile compounding; chemicals and the compounding process; beyond-use dating and stability; packaging, labeling, delivery for administration and dispensing; practitioner and patient education; quality assurance and self-assessment."

With so many pharmacies across the country that have already been accredited and so many pending applications, obtaining a position in one of these accredited pharmacies is becoming much easier. The PCAB is already providing patients with a way to select a compounding pharmacy that meets very strict and high quality standards.

The importance of compounding pharmacies is now being realized as the demand for these pharmacies grows. Because of the increasingly different requirements for individual patients, compounding pharmacies are now an important part of the pharmacy industry.

How the Nursing Shortage Affects the Healthcare System?

In recent years, there has been a growing shortage of nurses across the country. Many expect this shortage to grow in the approaching years as baby boomers grow older and the demand for health care increases. Other reasons for a nurse shortage include: a minimum number of openings in nursing schools, an increase in the number of nurses retiring, and many nurses leaving the healthcare field.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing and other medical professionals have become concerned about the impact the nursing shortage will have on society. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (2000), “the U.S. will experience a 20% shortage in the number of nurses needed in our nation's health care system by the year 2020.” The American Hospital Association reports “that 75% of all current hospital vacancies are for registered nurses.” As well, projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics “reveal the need for more than one million new nurses by the year 2010.”

The medical community has concerns about the impact on the public such as: the public will have limited access to health care services, waiting times will significantly increase, increased nurse patient loads, increased risk for medical mistakes, higher risk of spreading infections and disease to patients and staff, increased risk of injury on the job, increased patient deaths, increase in nursing turnover due to stress and nurse burnout, and an increased need for therapy for nurses because of the increased stress.

Today's nursing shortage is different from any nursing shortage in the previous years. The nursing shortage has put a spotlight on how important nurses are in the health care industry. Nursing school leaders, politicians, and health care administrators, are working very hard to find a fix to the nursing shortage. Providing incentives to increase enrollment in entry level nursing degrees is a key part of countering the nurse shortage. Nursing schools require assistance in making more room to increase student enrollment. Legislation is being proposed to combat the nursing shortage by providing capitulation grants to nursing schools in order to boost the number of students and faculty.

There are now more online schools that offer nursing programs and more healthcare managers are recognizing these schools as beneficial to helping curb the nurse shortage, Increasing salaries and improving work conditions are also essential to attracting people to the nursing field. As well, there are a number of states that are collaborating with sponsors from the private sector which provides nursing students more choices when they enter the health care field. The increase in funding will help attract and retain more nurses.

With the current economic conditions in such a poor state, as well as massive layoffs taking place across the country, a career in nursing may be the right solution for those seeking a respected and lucrative career helping people. The need for nursing care and the demand for nurses are increasing. It is a great time to be a nurse.

Difference Between a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner

Nurses have always played a vital role in the health care industry. They spend their lives caring for people who are afflicted with illnesses and injuries. Two types of nurses that are highly respected members of the medical community are Registered Nurses (RN) and Nurse Practitioners. (NP) There are a number of differences between a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.

Registered Nurse (RN)

A Registered Nurse is a licensed medical professional who has completed a four-year nursing degree from a reputable nursing school. These nurses provide all types of nursing care to their patients and act as health advocates for the patient. As well, they evaluate, plan, and implement nursing care treatment for the sick and injured in conjunction with physicians and other health care providers. Registered nurses carry out a number of medical tasks such as: explaining and educating patients about their medical conditions, dispensing treatments such as medications and fluids, performing selected medical procedures, monitoring a patient’s vital signs, advising and supporting patients, maintaining patient health records, and keeping families advised on a patient’s health status and progress. A registered nurse can work in most areas of the health care field. With advanced training and experience, registered nurses can specialize in a specific medical area such as surgical procedures.

Nurse Practitioner (NP)

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who has normally completed either a master's degree or doctoral degree and undergone training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions. The Nurse Practitioner degree program is explicit in its educational goals that include physical assessment and screening, diagnosis, diagnostics, therapeutic treatment, pharmacology and drug interactions, assisting with patient emotional support and counseling, patient intake, referral and discharge procedures, and case management practices.

In the US, Nurse Practitioners are licensed by the state where they practice. They have national board certification which is normally done through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. The specialized training and educations allows a nurse practitioner to perform many medical tasks usually performed by a doctor. Such tasks include diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries. A few states permit nurse practitioners to write prescriptions. The nurse practitioner has advanced comprehension and clinical proficiency in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and patient care practices. Nurse practitioners treat health conditions within their range of practice through the utilization of physical exams, physical therapy, ordering tests, and implementing therapies for patients,

Nurses are the first medical professionals people see when faced with a health problem. They can be found working in the community in such places as health clinics, schools, doctors’ offices, home care, family planning clinics, rehabilitation centers, and hospices. In a hospital, nurses can be found working in emergency, intensive care, operating room, maternity, cardiovascular (heart), oncology (cancer), psychiatry, pediatrics, palliative, and geriatrics.

They provide important and essential support to doctors and other healthcare providers, patients, and families. A career as either a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner is satisfying, lucrative, and meaningful.

Glasses: The New Fashion Rage

Gone are the days when spectacles were used as prescription lenses by only the boring and unfashionable "Minnie Four Eyes" and “Ugly Betty” stereotype. Makeover no longer means trashing your spectacles to grab a pair of cosmetic contact lenses. Top celebrities like John Lennon, Elton John , Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp come to mind when we think of signature-style spectacles.

A survey conducted by a reliable source, establishes the fact that more than 69.6% of the survey-takers prefer glasses to other eyewear. This preference could be attributed to the low maintenance quotient of spectacles (made from extremely sturdy and scratch-resistant plastic_ CR-39, polycarbonate, izon) in comparison to contact lenses which require a whole maintenance kit of solutions, containers etc.

Remember that your face begins to grow around your spectacles so you will have to select the pair that best suits your facial constitution. A smart buyer would fully exploit the potential glamour that a pair of spectacles could impart to your face. Unfortunately, such smart buyers are few and far between, but you need not despair because by the time you reach the end of this article, you will have some indispensable tips up your sleeve.

Some Useful Tips to up your Glamour Quotient by Using Glasses

•You have to ensure that the color of your spectacle lenses complements your complexion. Amber, smoked, clear, photo-chromatic are some of the lenses available in the market. But remember that each of these lenses has a specific functionality so make an informed choice. Generally, bright colors suit light-complexioned skin while light colors work for dark-complexioned skin.

•Since spectacles tend to become a facial feature, choose a frame that suits your facial shape. Apart from the shape of the frame, the size of the frame also needs to be checked. The frame should not look too small or too large for your face. So, in order to get the right kind of frame for yourself, you will have to browse well.

•Since, your outfit plays an important role in conveying your personality, your accessories should complement your outfit. On a formal occasion, sporting a pair of spectacles with an extravagant looking frame is a fatal faux pas. So keep the outfit and the occasion in mind.

•Finally, you can team your signature style spectacles with other accessories like scarves and earrings. But remember that style is never heaping accessories on yourself. If you want your eyewear to steal the show, then ensure that your scarf and earrings are not too showy.
If you choose eyewear that reflects and enhances your personality then there is nothing to stop you from becoming the cynosure of any gathering. To achieve this, the variety and quality that you need is easily available in e-stores.

Buying Online/ E-shopping

Even if you are a first-time online shopper, you need not panic because never before has it been this easier to buy accessories online. Online retailers would surely give you exactly what you have been looking for but as is the case with online transactions, you will have to be a cautious and alert customer to ensure that you have the upper hand in the bargain. So whether it is a pair of corrective lenses or your fashion statement tool, the win-win situation of online-shopping always gives you the triple benefits of maximum variety, reasonability and comfort at a mouse-click.

The Healing Nature of Sleep

3

Sleep is a source of energy. Your body in repose is the same bony structure which must be kept upright all day. The relaxed muscles holding the nightly position are the same which bring you into daily action. The way you lie in bed influences the way you stand and walk.

You spend about a third of your life on a mattress. Most of us do not sleep all that time. We are too tense, too emotionally worn to unwind and give ourselves the rest we need. We are in desperate need of stress relief (http://www.wilddivine.com/servlet/-strse-Biofeedback-Software/Categories). Unable to relax, we toss and turn, adding irritation to fatigue. Sleeping pills and all the tranquilizing aids, which are rapidly becoming a major national industry, do not always bring relief.

Sleep finally claims us and what happens then? Almost invariably we slump into the attitude mankind has inherited since time began. The spine curves into a prenatal huddle. The head droops forward and down; the knees creep upwards to meet it. The arms fold over the torso. This is the protective wary posture of most animals.

It was the posture of primitive man when he came out of the cave. Shrinking into itself as though for warmth, the body was ready for instant action in case of attack. It was correctly poised to roll over and fight, or run off—on all fours.

But what was necessary for humans in those days, is no longer suitable to man under modern conditions. That huddle is an actual deterrent to his present stance. He still is not completely adapted to walking upright with ease.

The truth is, most of us do not know how to sleep. We have not acquired the ability to stretch out relaxed, completely surrendering to the great healer, sleep. It is that vulnerable release that is emphasized in beginning meditation (http://www.wilddivine.com/wellnesslibrary/47.html) while in a relaxed conscious state.

Taut nerves and muscles show we are not at peace with ourselves. There is not enough core of unity within us to resist the pressures and fragmentation of modern living. Most of us are tied to a pattern of behavior established by a hundred trivial details.

Synonymous with life itself is the habit of breathing. Even in sleep, we never cease to breathe. We can do without food and even without water for short periods. But without air there is no survival. Stop breathing, and death claims us within minutes.

By filling our lungs, and nourishing our blood, air builds up a potent life-source. Every human activity depends upon the precious stuff. Without oxygen, food would do us no good, for it could not be oxidized and transmuted into healthy blood cells and body tissue.

We simply must be oxygenized. Machines burn fuel to produce power—we must burn the body fuel in our cells to produce the same combustion or explosive energy. Deep breathing drives the carbon dioxide out of the blood stream and rejuvenates our whole system by circulating fuel to cells and organs.

The importance of correct breathing is recognized by all the great teachers. The technology of biofeedback therapy is helping us learn more about how correct breathing revitalizes our starving blood cells. The Book of Genesis speaks of the mysterious energy, the Spirit (breath) of Life which animates the life process.

Oriental masters consider it the source of spiritual strength, prime mover of its abundant flow. Some Yoga adepts build a system of meditation around psychic exercises in inhaling and exhaling air. With practice and intense application they can perform seeming miracles, such as sending themselves into a trance and suspending normal functioning.

The Many Capabilities of a Stereo Microscope

When you talk about magnification, lenses, and small things, one thing comes to mind: the microscope. But gone are the days when the term only covers simple and compound microscopes. Today, you hear kinds such as the stereo microscope and the polarized light microscope. There are even biological microscopes and educational microscopes.

Indeed, there are so many updates on the word of microscopes today. If you've only known this laboratory instrument from school and never met one ever since, then you'd be surprised at how many different kinds there are already.

So, to update your information bank on the world of microscopes, this article will talk about an interesting type: the stereo microscope. The stereo microscope is also known as a dissecting microscope. This is because this type is mostly used for close work such as dissection, microsurgery and even watch-making.

The Uniqueness

The stereo microscope differs from the other types of microscopes in a lot of ways. First, while others only have one eyepiece (the cylinder containing the lenses and the part that you put your eyes on to see the specimen in question), the stereo microscope has two. Yes, like binocular, the dissecting microscope makes use of two separate optical paths to give you a better view of the specimen. As a result, this feature gives you a three-dimensional image of the sample being examined.

Second, the stereo microscope uses a different kind of illumination. Compound microscopes use transmitted illumination (light "transmitted through the object") while stereo microscopes use reflected illumination (light "reflected from the surface of an object"). Of course, this makes sense because of the 3D capability of stereo microscopes. Reflected light is very useful when examining objects that are either too thick or that are opaque - in such a case, transmitting light through it would be next to impossible.

The stereo microscope also has two magnification systems: fixed and zoom. Fixed magnification is achieved using a pair of objective lenses with a set magnification degree. Basically, the degree of magnification that you get solely depends on what your lenses are capable of. Zoom magnification, on the other hand, is capable of varying degrees of magnification. Have you ever heard of the terms "zoom in" and "zoom out?" Well, that's exactly how the zoom magnification in a stereo microscope works.

Stereo microscopes are also capable of digital displays, as in the case of digital microscopes. Having the image projected on a high resolution monitor is very useful especially in surgeries. If you are ever a fan of House and Grey's Anatomy, then you've surely seen one of those episodes where a monitor is used to view the specimen examined under a stereo microscope.

Microscopes have truly gone a long way. Before, only one lens is used; today, microscopes with two optical paths are already in existence. Surely, Anton van Leeuwenhoek did not dream that his "invention" would go this long, and that it would be used outside of biology.

Still, it's wonderful to know that Science continues to re-invent and to upgrade itself. It's nice to know that it continues to work better to provide us with better answers. After all, how will we understand the world more if not for Science? How would we know what an atom looks like if not for a microscope?

How Can You Determine The Authenticity Of Designer Eyeglasses?

With the increase in the popularity of designer eyeglasses, there has been an increase in criminals trying to sell fake eyeglasses. These fake manufacturers are integrating more features within their frames to make the eyeglasses they sell look more like actual designer glasses. Such fake eyeglasses have been made for such brand names as Bvlgari, Chanel, Colce and Gabbana, Prade, Versace, and Polo. When purchasing a pair of designer eyeglasses, you should be able to identify that the eyeglasses are authentic in order to avoid becoming a victim of a scam.

The following are a number of tips to help you determine the authenticity of designer eyeglasses:

1. Most designer eyeglasses normally cost $200.00 and more. If you find a really cheap pair of eyeglasses that claim to be designer, you may want to reconsider the purchase as they are most likely a fake.

2. Look at the description of the eyeglasses. Does it state the brand name, or does it say inspired by ‘brand name.’ ‘Inspired’ will mean fake. Also, look for misspellings and unusual graphics.

3. Check the eyeglass components. If there are plastic screws or hinges, the eyeglasses are most likely a fake. Designer eyeglasses should have solid construction and quality strong components.

4. Look at the package holding the eyeglasses. Check for a barcode, model name, frame and lens description. The box should have the designer’s logo on it. A Universal Product Code or a UPC is the barcode and number series located on every retail product. If you receive a package without a barcode sticker, it is a good indication that you have purchased a fake. The barcode may also be on the packaging. When ordering eyeglasses, make sure it is being sent in its original wrapping.

Each manufacturing company has a UPC group that assigns specific numbers to specific products that are five digits in length. Each product has its own unique number. The number can never be reused with the same manufacturer ID number.

5. Designer eyeglasses should come with a warranty document or warranty registration booklet.

6. Most designers will come with a product information sheet or small card. There should also be a company’s contact information if one has any questions about the eyeglasses.

7. If you are purchasing the eyeglasses online, compare the seller’s pictures of the eyeglasses with pictures of the eyeglasses on the manufacturer’s website. Look at such details as the location of the logo, frame color and the color of the lenses.

Designer eyeglasses have now become a popular item for millions of people around the world. If you are worried about the authenticity of a pair of eyeglasses, it is important that you employ a number of methods to check its legitimacy. Manufacturers are fighting criminals that sell fake products, but unfortunately, there are a lot of these criminals out there. The best thing to do is check the authenticity yourself before you make a purchase. This will help protect you from being ripped off.

Medical Imaging Equipment Financing - Is it an Option For You?

When it comes to diagnosing diseases, doctors everywhere depend on Medical Imaging Equipment. But unfortunately, because of the great service they offer, this equipment has turned out to be very expensive. From X-Ray Machines to Ultrasound Equipment, all these fall under the Medical Imaging devices and thus hospitals all over need some kind of financing to assist them during purchase.

Let us have a look at the different Medical Imaging devices and how they are useful.

- CT Scan Machines: These help in creating multiple images of the organs that are troubling the patient. Starting from internal organs, muscles and soft tissues, these devices are powerful enough to take images of even blood vessels. It is a piece of wonder that one cannot do without in the field of medicine and obviously comes with a price that is rather high.

- Radiology Equipment: A combined term used to suggest machinery for X-Ray, Ultrasound, Radio waves and Computer Tomography, and the likes. To use these, one has to apply a small dose of radioactive substance on to the parts of the patient’s body that requires the image to be taken from. There are different kinds of these items serving different purposes. Thus, you see having these are vital to conduct proper diagnosis. And for that it requires Medical Imaging Equipment Financing.

- X-Ray Machines: For detecting anomalies in the bone structure or detecting tumors experts take the help of X-Ray machines. Thus if you have fractured your bone or developed abnormal growth in your bones, you need to get an X-Ray done. It is absolutely a must requisite for hospitals and clinics to have. Like the rest of them mentioned, it too is costly and needs financing.

- X-Ray Film Processor: You need these to print the images taken by X-Ray Machines. Thus it is a must have for the some clinics and centre’s. Usually they are financed.

- Sonogram: Using sound waves to create pictures, these are used for taking pictures of internal organs. For complications in muscles, veins ad arteries, you have to get an ultrasound done, especially for patients who cannot endure radioactive substances. It is highly sophisticated and thus is extremely costly. Assistant of Medical Imaging Financing is required.

- Ultrasound Equipment: A painless process for diagnosing complications in one’s interior organs, Ultrasound requires a very short time to take the images and is safe as well. They come in handy for taking pictures of the bay during pregnancy to watch their growth and health. To purchase these, financing may be required.

- Endoscope Equipment: These come in use while reviewing certain specific diseases. They are capable of taking very high quality images of internal organs. Due to its sophisticated and efficient nature, they are very costly too.

Now, as useful as they all might be, they are expensive equipment pieces, or can be. So they may need financing.

There are companies that offer loans that are approved swiftly. These companies are experienced in leasing and offer good deals.

Recent Trends in Big Phama

There are a number of trends taking place lately in the pharmaceutical industry, one of them being generic drugs, the other being globalization of generic medicine. As generic medicine is taken root in smaller, less developed countries, the big pharmaceutical companies are clamoring for a piece of the action. With generic medicine on the rise in the U.S. and abroad, some big pharmaceutical companies have turned to underhanded practices to get these cheaper drugs out of the market. Big pharmaceutical companies are now paying off smaller generic drug makers to halt production altogether, to keep these cheaper drugs out of the market. But who pays the price for this in the end?

In recent years larger brand name pharmaceutical companies have started the practice of entering into agreements with smaller generic drug companies, to slow down production of their generic drugs, or halt production altogether. Up until recently, big pharmaceutical companies have tried to work hand in hand with smaller generic drug companies over licensing rights to drugs and even making generic brand named medicine. Even though this seems like an effective strategy, some of the more underhanded dealings by the big pharmaceutical companies may not be good for everyone.

The cost of the average generic drug can be anywhere from 60% to 80% of the brand name alternative. But it’s not just the individuals that are hurting from these underhanded practices. Lower drug prices also benefit businesses as well as many employers pay for their workers’ health care, including any prescription medicine they may need. When these big pharmaceutical companies take away this option to buy generic medicine, this puts the burden directly on the consumers and the employers who provide health care for their employees. Because brand name medicine can be so expensive this is resulting in thousands of businesses dropping health care plans for their employees altogether, putting a huge financial burden back onto consumers, often resulting in them not being able to afford any kind of medicine altogether.

Because of these recent practices by the large branded drug companies to keep any competition out, many other recipients who are not involved are being affected as well. Many pharmaceutical sales consulting firms, who work hard to keep an eye on these recent developments, have noticed something even more alarming. They are noticing that as many large branded companies take away the option of buying generic medicine, taxpayers are footing most of the bill. Because many individuals have no way of affording these expensive brand named medicines many people are turning to their governments for assistance. As the governments of the world are taking on more and more people to cover their health insurance plans, the cost is going back to the taxpayer. In the end nobody wins but the large pharmaceutical company.

Pharmaceutical Companies Rush Ahead to Prepare Swine Flu Vaccine

Because of the recent Swine Flu virus that has swept the globe, many drug manufacturers are doing whatever they can to produce ample amounts of the vaccine for this upcoming flu season, but they are having more problems than anticipated. Many pharmaceutical companies are having trouble growing enough of the swine flu virus to produce adequate amounts of the vaccine. Many drug companies are falling behind of this race to produce enough vaccines for this upcoming pandemic season, and it could hurt the drug companies in the long run. Many drug companies are already going outside of the box hiring outside life sciences consulting firms to help maximize their production levels to be able to fill this massive demand for swine flu vaccines.

The FDA is currently reporting that the major drug companies are only getting to about 30% of the production rate needed to supply all the demand for this upcoming flu season. Because of this problem reproducing the virus effectively, many countries around the world are concerned they won’t have enough stock piled vaccines in preparation for a worse case scenario. But not all drug manufacturers are falling behind schedule. Companies like MedImmune are actually developing excess amounts due to its innovative vaccine design process.

MedImmune is able to make so many vaccines because they are making their product from a weakened flu virus rather than a neutralized live virus. Live viruses produce a stronger immune response then weakened viruses, but MedImmune claims it will be just as effective. MedImmune even claims it will be more effective due to its delivery mechanism, coming in the form of a flu spray, with only one dose being adequate, rather than two doses from a more conventional vaccine dosage.

But not everyone is convinced that it will be as effective as MedImmune claims. Some critics are claiming it will not be as effective as the standard swine flu vaccine due to its manufacturing process. Others are claiming that they are just trying to take short cuts to fill demand to get more government contracts. However, this technology that MedImmune is using does have its drawbacks. Because of the spray delivery mechanism, many spray suppliers are not able to keep up with the demand for the vaccine and are only able to produce, at the most, 40 million doses. This is well short of the needed amount, as the U.S. alone has ordered 195 million doses of vaccines from five major drug developers. Only time will tell if the rest of the drug companies will be able to catch up to MedImmune, and if we will have the shortage of vaccines that is being predicted, but as of right now, MedImmune is the only drug manufacturer who is currently not behind schedule.

Health Insurance,Technology, And the National Debate

Spent any time listening to the health care debate recently? It seems almost impossible to avoid, and the partisan fighting on either side of the aisle can make for a difficult time in understanding the issues.

President Obama has tried to lay out his plans to show how they will benefit all Americans, and while some of the details of the funding and budgeting remain fuzzy, the reforms are fairly comprehensive. A stop in July in Ohio gave the President the stage to speak in a town-hall type meeting.

There, he explained that his reforms were not proposed only for those Americans (over 45 million) who were without health insurance; instead, he maintained that he was working to try to hold insurers to a higher standard for whom they will cover. Out-of-pocket expenses are a huge issue across the board and both the President and the Democratic Party at large are emphasizing the need to cap these expenses for those already insured under a plan. An additional key point the President makes is the importance of making it illegal to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, making it more feasible for those with illnesses from diabetes to cancer to obtain health insurance to help manage the costs of their care. As it stands, such a diagnosis can almost immediately bankrupt those who do not carry the appropriate levels of coverage (or who do not have insurance at all).

In an economy in which small business (and larger business, as well) are being hit harder and harder in their bottom line by employee health-care costs, both sides agree to the need for reform. Interestingly, the fact that President Obama chose to lay out many of the specifics of his plan in Cleveland provided a background for a case study in success, focused on the Cleveland Clinic.

The Cleveland Clinic is recognized nationally as one of the best providers of care at the lowest-per-patient cost. During his remarks in July, President Obama praised the high quality of care doctors and nurses provided, at their own discretion, and called for those types of reforms to become national so that the quality of care could be determined by health care providers (as opposed to insurance companies). The highly trained staff at the Cleveland Clinic is empowered to make on-the-spot health care decisions for their patients without elaborate insurance company involvement. The technology of having medical records avialable with the click of a button can go very far in not just saving money but saving lives.

This quality of care is made possible in part due to the technology employed by the Cleveland Clinic, allowing for better patient record-keeping and more accurate test monitoring. Repeat tests, or duplicative tests, almost never take place due to a speedy and accurate technology backbone that accurately and efficiently monitors patients’ procedures, health, and ongoing treatments. Fewer tests means lower expenses. This focus on technology will likely be an ongoing segment of the health care debate. Better care with a cost-effective bottom line is the goal both sides are seeking.

When it comes to eyewear, there is nothing as important as its comfort and fitting, suitability and functionality, safety and protection and fashion!

The adage “Clothes make a man!” needs correction: “Clothes and accessories make a person!” Accessories no longer mean the essential wrist-watch, bracelet or earring. In our fashion trend-driven society, accessories have acquired a new significance and have the power to make or mar a fashion statement.

These days, sunglasses/ shades are the most popular type of fashion accessory. They come in a host of so many different makes, designs and colors that you would surely find the one that best complements your personality. Of the various styles which are ruling the market, wraps, mirror shades(police shades), aviators, wayfarers, flip-up glasses , glacier glasses, faded/graduated lenses, shutter shades are the most popular. Of these, wraps, which extend past the eye to the temple, are the best designs for sunglasses as they make for super-stylish protective eyewear.

Online shopping: With the advent of E-buying, you no longer have to brave the sun, wind, rain and traffic congestion to procure a pair of glares. Apart from saving time and energy while shopping online, you may even strike a good bargain and grab a trendy pair at a throwaway price. However, you must remember that the primary function of a pair of shades is to give optimum ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) ray protection.

Guidelines to Ensure Smart Buying:

•Your shades should enhance your looks and complement your facial structure. Take the instance of Victoria Beckham, whose pair of large black glasses with a transparent and symmetrical frame makes her look incomparably glamorous. But never make the fatal mistake of blindly aping somebody else’s style statement. It would be a total disaster. Be confident of your personality and choose accessories likewise.

•Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause ocular problems such as photokeratitis, cataracts, pterygium, and eye cancer. So choose sunglasses/ sun cheaters that can protect your eyes from the harmful UVA and UVB sun rays.

•Glares with large lenses and wide sides are the best option for protective eyewear. However, they should not be too oversized for your face.

Your Budget: Several top-notch fashion houses have identified the popularity of eyewear and are designing super-trendy glares. But everything has a price tag so before you get to the actual buying you will have to fix the budget. Remember: budget planning is integral to smart buying. Also have a sharp eye for the various discount sales schemes and make the most of it.

Variety: The market is inundated with sunglasses of every conceivable make and color. You cannot help but be spoilt for choice. Always try a couple of shades before you zero in on one. Select the best pair that exactly suits your facial shape and enhances your personality. Browse the latest collections at online stores, to ensure that your pair of sunglasses is ‘in’.

Credibility: When it comes to online-shopping, you should be wary of fake items and stores. Before purchasing, make a thorough check of the credibility of the seller. Purchase only when you are satisfied that the store is a registered one.

Be a smart online shopper and save your time, energy and money by shopping from the cozy confines of your home. So make the most of e-shopping and experience the joy of commanding the world at the click of a mouse!

Selecting Eyewear For Yourself

When it comes to eyewear, there is nothing as important as its comfort and fitting, suitability and functionality, safety and protection and fashion! So next time you’re checking one out do not forget to consider the four spheres mentioned.

•Comfort and Fitting:

When it comes to buying a pair of eye gear for yourself, never compromise on these factors. Getting yourself the right size that fits well is very important. They should your features. It is important to get the right look. One that sits too big or tiny is undesirable. Try out as many frames as you can lay your hands on to get the right pair.

•Suitability and Functionality:

Now people have different needs for eyewear. While some need it during riding bikes, as some places require you to, some need it to protect their eyes against the sun’s harmful ultra violet rays. In regard to style there are plenty available. You can try the popular foam-back glasses. They are quite in and user-friendly. Just make sure they suit you and have a snug fit. You can even try on the clip-on glasses. Ensure the clips fit the edges and are close to the lens, yet not sticking to it.

There are many colored lenses that serve different functions. Here is a small list you can go through to find one that is suitable to your needs:

1.Smoked lenses: these are easy to use and are very hardy.

2.Amber lenses: because of their capability to filter out blue light, these are used as driving glasses. In high glare and out door conditions these provide a clear vision and sharp shadows and contrast.

3.Clear lenses: if you are driving at night or conditions when the light is particularly low, theses are the ones for you. You do not have to comprise on UV protection either.

4.Yellow lenses: in conditions where there is snow and fog, or at nighttime, these increase the brightness and contrast levels for you to see well.

5.Orange and grey photo chromatic lenses: these are best for conditions of varying light.

6.Apart from colored lenses, reflective lenses: as the name suggests, they reflect the light away from your eye thus keeping a relaxed vision.

7.Polarized lenses: in very high glare situations; they protect your eyes from sudden flashes of light, which are harmful for the retina.

•The Fashion Factor:

For most people making a fashion statement is very important. For other it is at least important to look good. Brands might get you high quality expensive lenses, but fashion is not born out of exercising brand power. It is important that the lenses you buy suit your face. For the executive, there s the metallic look and a titanium frame for the sportsmen. If you have a long face, go for oval shapes and for those with a square face, a bold square frame is a good option.

•Safety and protection:

This is no less important. Get yourself a sturdy pair that will protect your eyes.

Out-sourcing Of Medical Transcription – How It Works??

Many of the medical facilities outsource transcription for various reasons. For the convenience of the physicians and hospitals, we provide a wide variety of options to send us the dictations and to receive transcriptions:

-Toll free telephone lines
-Digital and cassette tape hand held recorders
-Dictation servers
-Transcriptions via secure e-mail, secure file transfer protocol or
website data bank
-Transcriptions via fax or remote internet printer

Dictation on toll free telephone lines:

This is a dedicated computerized system that allows the physicians to call in from any phone including cellular, and dictate. Once the toll free number is dialed voice prompts will guide through the process, which will enable the physicians to dictate. Each physician will be given a unique 4-digit id. Our dial-n-dictate program is very physician-friendly and prompts are given for each step. For the convenience of the physicians facilities like rewind, replay, save, abort, fast forward etc are also available. The chances of losing dictations are very remote eliminating the need for re-dictation.

Digital hand held recorders:

If the physician does not want to dial the numbers every time and do not want to be bound to a phone, digital hand held recorder is the best alternative.

A digital voice recorder is smaller or about the same size of an hand-held tape recorder and is operated like one.

Voice is recorded on internal / removable memory cards like those used in digital cameras. Each card can take up to 10 hours of dictation. It can be plugged into a computer interface and the voice can be sent to the transcription company via Internet. The voice can be saved into the computer or deleted so that the card can be reused. One can continue to record on another card if one is full. Hence waiting for the files to transfer if avoided. By keeping a few cards available, physician can record wherever and whenever required.

It is very easy and takes very little time to remove the card from the recorder, insert it into a computer interface and transfer the files via Internet.

Most important point to remember is, all the transfers should be secure and appropriate HIPAA compliant file transfer program has to be selected like secure ftp, secure email

Dictation servers

The transcription service provider can log into the hospital dictation server if the hospital is already having one.

Alternatively, inexpensive computer programs are available. Physician can directly dictate to the computer using a wireless or wired microphone. The transcription service provider can access these dictations.

Getting back the Transcriptions

Transcribed records can be received by one of the following options:

As an email attachment. However the email service should be secure and HIPAA compliant.

Transcriptions can be received via fax or remote internet printer by which docuemtns are directly printed by the transcription service provider at the physician’s end.

Transcriptions can be downloaded from the secure ftp site provided by the medical transcription service provider.

Some of the transcription service providers like Vision Infonet will have online data servers. Physicians can access these servers through a browser to:

-Search, view and secure download the transcriptions anytime
-Transcriptions can be edited and saved online.
-Respective voice file can be played while editing
-Electronic signature can be added.
-Automatic faxing the transcriptions can be done

Advantages of Using Bifocal Reading Glasses

If you are in your forties or beyond, you are bound to face complications in reading books or newspapers over time, more so if you have been wearing specs all your life. Especially, because if you have had a pair of glasses to see farsighted objects all your life then it becomes difficult to have another pair to see the close objects and to juggle both the pairs. Bifocal reading glasses have been the best solution to this problem.

Bifocals have been the brainchild of the great American Statesman, Benjamin Franklin. His idea caused a revolution in the history of spectacles. According to the story, Benjamin Franklin possessed two separate pair of glasses. One for farsightedness, that is to see distant objects and things and the other for reading.
Since he was a busy person he soon got tired of wearing the different pair of glasses as per requirements. And hence he came up with the revolutionary idea of cutting the two glasses into half and then joining the half to produce a combination of the two glasses that could be worn as one. Hence one single frame had one single lens. This was the Bifocals.

Made of two parts, the bifocal lenses were divided into two parts by a distinct border line-the upper part for distant objects and the lower part for reading. This way of division had a purpose behind it. And that is people generally read by holding their books down while we look up at a distance to see distant objects. These lenses are used even these days and are named after Franklin, called ‘’Franklin Lenses ‘’ or ‘’Executive lenses’’ (E lenses). These days bifocals come in special ‘’progressive lenses’’ where the border line is made invisible.

The significant thing to note about these bifocal lenses is that they can be used for reading. In such cases the upper part of the lens does not have any power. There are four types of bifocal lenses where the reading lens comes within the full lens. And these four types of lenses are:-

• One with the round part at the lower side of the lens.
• Two in a semi circle shape or that of a half moon or slanted D shape.
• A ‘’ribbon segment’’which is a small rectangular part in the lower half.
• The Franklin lenses.

Bifocals are indeed one of the most useful things and the best thing about them is that they get better with practice. On using regularly, you get used to using the upper part of the lens for looking at far objects and lower part for reading and then after a few months you will be instinctive in your use of it. Whatever type of reading glass you use, just remember that they work on the same principle of lower half of lens being used for reading purpose and upper half of lens used for looking at distant objects.

The best thing about bifocal reading glasses is that they help in getting rid of two pairs of glasses for two kinds of visual problems. You can always take your old pair of glasses to the optician and get him to cut the lenses into half in order to make you, your very own pair of Franklin lenses.

Fashion Eyewear Choices For You

In a world where all kinds of accessories are making their individual mark on the fashion world, there is no reason why those with fashion eye wear should be left behind. As one of the most favored accessories by both celebrities and superstars, eyewear has always had a special mark in the history of fashion world and hence its world wide popularity. In this era, sunglasses are not merely meant for the purpose of protection from the Ultra violet UV rays. It’s not just a style statement but also defines who you are suggesting your personal mystique while enhancing the uniqueness of your individual identity.

Today, choosing the right pair of sunglass is very important. Eyewear has etched out its own niche in the fashion world thanks to the celebrities flaunting various kinds of eyewear. For those who wear prescription glasses are at a loss as to which kind of frames to buy since the market is full of all kinds and variety. Those who have already purchased their glasses are now worried as to whether they will have to update their looks since Guess frames may not be as popular as they were at a point of time. Hence as we can see there are reasons as to why the eyecare never escape the fashion designer’s eyes.

And since your eyes are the first things to be noticed when you meet someone therefore why not make a great first impression by flaunting one of those fashion eyewear? The writer’s suggestion is somewhere quite correct when he tells you that you should always choose an eyewear which is exclusively stylish and also goes with your image as in the person you are. Some branded sunglasses like Gucci, Armani and Dior are like this.

You can also get yourself a pair of frames which suit your face and personality and fashion preferance. This will enhance your look and make you sparkle even in that pair of designer prescription glasses. You can get various kinds of frames in the market like the bookish darker colored frames, lightest of metallic ones, attractive wraparounds and any special kind that you might seek. Besides these you can also choose mod, retro or simple and basic modern style.

Sunglasses are assuming popularity by the day. Stars like Tom Cruise are always seen to be wearing one or the other hot pair of sunglasses. He never seems to appear without them. And you cannot blame the young men out there in America who know that they cannot be a Tom Cruise so they just try to copy his style or atleast assume his air by satisfying themselves on the fact that they are wearing the same designer eyewear that he wears. These designer eyewear make them feel like the confident, collected, suave, and powerful man they see on the big screen.

Since there is a wide variety and choice of fashion eyewear both for men and women available in the market so one should choose well keeping in consideration one’s image and personality. With the help of just a change in your simple eyewear you can always create a stunning and dashing and memorable first impression.

Boost Your Metabolism - Here Are Quick Tips

There are a lot of people who would give a lot to increase their metabolism. Having a high level of metabolism enables one to maintain burn fat and lose weight fast with the least amount of activity. Metabolism is the rate by which the body produces and consumes energy and calories to support life.

There are several factors that affect the metabolism of a person, such as the amount of muscle tissue, the frequency of the meals one consumes, genetics, stress levels, personal diet and activity levels. Metabolism slows done due to the following: loss of muscle because of not enough physical activity, the tendency of the body to cannibalize its own tissue because there is not enough food energy to sustain it, and the decrease of physical activity that comes naturally with old age.

Here are several ways to fire up one's metabolism:

1. Build up on lean, mean body mass. It is only natural that metabolism decreases along with age, but it is possible to counter the effects. The amount of muscle a person has is a very strong determinant in the ability to burn calories and shed fat. So it goes without saying that exercise is essential. Build strength and resistance by working out at least twice a week, preferably with weights. Do easy exercises in between workouts. Simple tasks such as walking the dog and using the stairs in place of the elevator can already take off calories. The key is to match the amount of eating to the amount of activity one has. Here are some guidelines in getting the right exercise:

For strength training

-Increase the amount of repetitions of a particular exercise.
-Add the level of resistance
-Utilize advance exercise techniques if possible

For cardiovascular training

-Insert intervals between exercises
-Perform cross-training and combine the exercises
-Add up on resistance and speed

2. Eat breakfast. A lot of people are ignoring the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Surprisingly, the ones who eat breakfast are thinner than the ones who do not. Metabolism can slow down considerably if breakfast is taken during mid-morning or if one waits until the afternoon to eat.

3. Avoid sugar. Sugar enables the body to store fat. It is recommended that a person consumes food that helps sustain an even level of blood-sugar. Additionally, progressive execerise 2-3 times a week should be in order to stabilize blood sugar.

4. Eat spicy foods. Hot cuisine with peppers can increase metabolism.

5. Sleep more. According to research, it is riskier for people who do not get enough sleep to gain weight. Also, muscles are regenerated during the last couple of hours of slumber.

6. Increase water intake. Water flushes out toxins that are produced whenever the body burns fat. Majority of bodily functions involves water, and lack of water causes the body system's operations to decrease its speed, and produces unneeded stress as a result.

7. Eat smaller meals. It is advisable to consume 4 to 6 small meals that are timed 2 to 3 hours apart.

8. Never skip meals. People tend to skip meals in order to lose weight, which is a big mistake since it slows down metabolism.

9. Plan meals in detail. Always prepare the right amount of food to be consumed at the designated intervals. Do not commit the mistake of eating meals in sporadic patterns.

9. Ditch the stress! Stress, be it physical or emotional, triggers the release of a steroid called cortisol, which decreases metabolism. Also, people tend to eat excessively when stressed.

10. Guzzle up on green tea. It can be used as a substitute for coffee. Tea has the ability to stimulate metabolism, and unlike coffee, it has no undesirable side effects when too much is consumed.

11. Include more energy foods in the diet, such as fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains.

Achieving the desired body weight is never impossible if one has the determination and patience needed to stabilize the metabolism level, which plays an important role in weight loss. A person needs to realize that eating right and working out is not just a passing fancy, but a way of life.

What to Expect at Your Next Speech Pathologist Appointment

Speech is the production of sounds for the purpose of communication. It involves the use of the lips, tongue, teeth, palate, vocal cords, and lungs. Speech language pathology deals with problems with communication and conditions that make it difficult for a person to swallow. When one engages in speech pathology therapy, they will learn techniques and exercises to improve verbal communication.

The following outlines what one can expect when attending a speech pathologist appointment:

The first step is for a Speech Pathologist to acquire an assessment of the patient. This will include taking a patient’s medical history to get an accurate account of the nature of the speech problem. The speech pathologist will also observe the patient to get a sense of the problem. There may also be some simple tests given to the patient. The assessment appointment can take anywhere from 1 – 2 takes hours. If it is a child that is being assessed, the parents will be actively involved in the assessment process.

Depending on the communication or swallowing problem, tests can include: repeating sounds and sentences for recording, taking an x-ray of the side of the palate, using a scope with a light to enter the nostril for visual assessment.

Once the assessment has been completed, the speech language pathologist will write a report based on the findings of the assessment. If required, the report can be given to other health professionals, parents, and teachers.

With a child, speech language assessment can involve playing with the child and asking parents a number of questions. The speech pathologist will assess how the child behaves and interacts with him or her. Other tests for a child can include showing the child toys and pictures and asking questions to evaluate the child’s responses. There may possibly be more than one assessment appointment for a child depending on the complexity of the problem.

After the assessment, the Speech Language Therapist will tell you what he or she recommends as a course of treatment. This can include a therapeutic treatment plan, or a referral to a specialist such as a hearing specialist. Regular therapy can be a weekly session. A therapy program will be implemented that focuses on the patient’s problem. The purpose of therapy is to improve communication. There may also be at-home therapy exercises one can use when not at a therapy session. The therapist will record the patient’s progress and make adjustments where necessary. The scheduled appointments are usually once a week for an hour.

Speech language therapy is the treatment of a speech disorder such as problems with the production of sounds, understanding others when they communicate, or problems putting words together properly when one communicates. In Canada and the United States, a Master's university degree level is the accepted standard of education. Many speech language therapists work in such areas as child language, learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism, enunciation, fluency, voice, swallowing, dementia, strokes, and brain injury. Assessment of the patient is essential to recovery. Speech Pathologists play an important role in helping patients overcome their speech language problems.

The first step is for a Speech Pathologist to acquire an assessment of the patient.

Two Ways Why Medical SEO is Key to Your Practice

Do you have a dynamic and engaging web-presence for your medical practice? Do you have a unique and creative website that you have created with the intention of gaining new patients and implementing a profitable marketing strategy? If you do, but your website is failing to produce the results that you desire, then you may need to consider the Search Engine Optimization of your website. Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO, is key to the success of your medical practices’ online presence.

Failure To Provide Search Engine Optimization Will Result In Low Rankings

Without SEO you will discover that your medical business and your medical marketing strategy in the online realm will fail to produce results. This is due to the fact that the purpose of SEO is to draw visitors to your website. For example, if you were to open a Search Engine such as ‘Google’ and enter in the search terms “medical practice” along with the city and state of your medical practice, you would expect your website to appear in the top 10 search results. However, if your medical practices website does not feature effective keywording, you will fail to provide proper Search Engine Optimization for your website. This will cause your website not to appear in the top 10 rankings.

Many medical practices are not aware of this, but the majority of web searchers will never look beyond the top ten search results when they run a search. This means that if your website does not appear in the top ten search results then you will be losing out on potential patients. This will also result in a loss of business. Therefore, all medical websites must have a strong focus on proper SEO in order to assure their companies overall online success.

The reason why many medical practices fail to have their practices website appear in the top ten search rankings is because they have used a medical website design company that is not skilled in SEO. When it comes to web marketing all medical physicians must seek out a reputable and effective web design service that can not only design your company’s website but that can also handle your practices online marketing strategy.

Hire An SEO Expert Or Firm To Carry Out Your SEO Needs

Small business marketing for your medical practice can be obtained from various sources. There are numerous high profile web-design firms that can not only design your website but can also guarantee that your website is SEO friendly. Additionally, there are numerous freelance web-designers who are skilled in both of these areas and can take your medical practices website to the next level. However, if you turn to a service that has no skills in SEO, then you will quickly discover that your medical practices website will not receive the web-traffic that it should be receiving. This will result in a lack of new patients and will also result in a lack of profit.

One common mistake that medical practices make is by building their own medical practice website. These types of websites generally fail to produce results. If you are not familiar with web-design and more importantly with SEO, then you will never be able to create a functional and effective medical practice website. However, every year hundreds of medical practices will build their own websites using online services and templates. Though a medical practice can save money doing this, they will simply be wasting their money. If you don’t have SEO skills to back up the website you create, it will never appear in the search engine rankings where it should.

The key to your medical practices online success is in proper SEO friendly web-design. If you are successful at creating such a website you will begin to generate new patients and will also begin to generate more profit.
